Info on Star Date's dating method:
What it Does
This program tells you the Star Date as used in the Star Trek series with a
few changes to make it usable in real life. We aren't saying this
program actually contributes anything to society, but it is a dating
method.
How to read it
When you run the program, it will display the date like this:
097055.8
- The first digit, 0 in this case, tells you what century it is.
The century is found by the last digit of the century. For
example, from the year 1901 until 2001 it was the 20th century, hence
0. From 2001 until 2101 it will be the 21st century, hence 1.
- The next two digit, 97 in this case, represent the number of year of
the century. 97 being the 97th year of the 20th century, or in
other words, 1997.
- The next three digits tell you the Day
Number of The Year (see
below). January 1 being day 1. Note, leap years alter the
dates. See below. Happily, all Star Dates have conversion
functions built in, so it will give you the accurate date in standard
ACE form.
- The next 1 or 2 digit following the decimal give you the Decimal
Time of Day. (See below) The Decimal time increments once ever 2
hours and 24 minutes. The Windows Star Date also include a hundredth
digit which dramatically increases the efficiency: It increases once
every 14 minutes and 24 seconds.

The real Star Date on Star Trek: TNG, DS9, VOY;
47234.0
At the beggining of Star Trek: The Next Generation the star date was
made as such:
- The first digit is the century. Since ST:TNG is based in the
24th century, the number 4 is used.
- The next digit represents the season number, so this would be in
ST:TNGs 7th and final season. Note: DS9 used the same dating
method, so year 2 of DS9 is the 7th season.
- The next three digit are the day of the year, from 000 to 999, and
they only approximate how far through the season the episode is.
- The decimal is the tenth of a day Decimal Time, as above.
Star Trek TNG(R) Star Trek DS9(R) and Star Trek VOY(R) are registered Trade
Marks of Paramount Pictures.
